It is time for the 46th annual Original Greek Festival, which takes place at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Houston’s Montrose section. Authentic Greek food is one of the most popular attractions at the festival. Original Greek Festival volunteers Maria Christie and Dana Kantalis show food radio talk show host Cleverley Stone how to make keftedes (Greek meatballs) and share details about the festival.
The festival begins Thursday, Oct. 4 until Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral
on 3511 Yoakum Boulevard. Admission at the gate will cost $5.00 for adults and children 12 years old and younger are admitted free.
Anyone can buy tickets in advance for $20.00, and the price will include admission and dinner plate with your choice of souvlaki, Greek salad or pastry box (not including gyros).
A free shuttle to the event will be available from Lamar High School.

Original Greek Festival Tiropites
(cheese filled triangles)
Makes 8 servings
1 box puff pastry dough
1/2 pound feta cheese
1/2 pound cottage cheese
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
1 pound butter, melted, warm & clarified
3 medium eggs
salt & white pepper to taste
1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Beat eggs until light & creamy. Fold in crumbled feta cheese, cottage cheese & Parmesan cheese. Season to taste.
3. Take 9″ x 9″ puff pastry dough sheet and cut into 4 squares.
4. Place 2 tablespoons of cheese filling in center of each square.
5. Brush edges with water, then fold over corner-to-corner, creating a triangle and crimp the edges with a fork.
Take fork and poke top of Tiropites to release steam.
6. Prior to baking brush clarified butter over top of Tiropites.
7. Place finished Tiropites on parchment paper. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes until golden brown.
